Ankle Revision Surgery
Foot and Ankle Surgeons of Oklahoma provides ankle revision surgery for patients across Oklahoma. While primary ankle surgery is considered safe and effective in most cases, not every patient who undergoes surgery will experience a positive outcome. If the patient continues to suffer from problems related to the injury, such as debilitating pain, ankle revision surgery may be necessary to improve the results of the unsuccessful procedure.
What is ankle revision surgery?
Ankle revision surgery repairs and improves results from a previous unsuccessful procedure. This surgery may involve repairing or repositioning tendons, ligaments or bones within the ankle. In some cases, removing misaligned or damaged surfaces or surgically realigning damages or misplaces joints is performed. In some cases, internal fixation devices that were used during the initial procedure to maintain the position of a bone may be removed during revision surgery, especially if they are causing pain. Sometimes new fixation implants may need to be inserted to obtain the best possible outcome.
Our team of fellowship-trained, board-certified surgeons has extensive experience in revising or salvaging difficult problems. We treat patients who come in for a second opinion from all over the state. As always, all treatment options will be discussed in great detail and at treatment plan will be developed to give the best possible outcome.
